Google Searches for Original Video Content

"Today’s quiz: What company derives 96 percent of its revenue from advertising, has a video platform that is currently negotiating with the National Basketball Association, a movie studio and various celebrities, and is developing a subscription service that would be plug-and-play for publishers and consumers the world over.  Time Warner? Hulu' s IPO misses Hoop

"Online video site Hulu LLC has taken off the table the idea of going public, at least for now, and may consider other financing options, people familiar with the matter said.  Hulu also is mulling new subscription plans that could broaden its pay-video offerings beyond the recently introduced Hulu Plus.

Hulu's management had been looking at an IPO as a way to raise cash, in part to license additional to content from a wider array of media companies. The company has decided not to proceed with the idea right now and may pursue other options for capital instead, the people familiar with the matter said." Youku, and You Too, could make money with Chinese video production

"Youku.com Inc., the Chinese online video company whose listing in New York last week was the hottest U.S. stock debut in years, will focus on domestic expansion and target mobile video users in China's growing market, Chief Executive Victor Koo said Monday.

Youku leads a Chinese online video market that analysts expect to grow strongly in the next few years as Internet penetration rises and advertisers spend more money online. But the company has yet to turn a profit and also faces intensifying competition.

Youku plans to invest in content and technology and to stay focused on China as the country's market is still growing, Mr. Koo said in an interview.

"In our mission we're not looking to go beyond the Chinese population at this point," he said, adding that Youku has no current plan to list outside the U.S. or to make acquisitions."  To read the entire Wall Street Journal article, written by Owen Fletcher, regarding 'Youku, and You Too, could make money with Chinese video production", click here.

FCC's policies may affect online video growth...

"The pay-as-you-go Internet access plan of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) could stop the growth of online video industry, warned analysts.

The pay-as-you-go Internet access schemes are not illegal but were discouraged by the regulator and are apposed by public and consumer groups. However, most carriers in the country are now offering data plans for Internet service.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has said that his new proposal, described as net-neutrality proposal, will restrict broadband service providers from tampering with Internet traffic and also admitted that he is open to suggestions about new charging system depending upon usage.

Analysts say that this will put a limit on how much consumers accesses Web video content has it takes up a lot of space and would carry a large price in fixed data plans. This could also widen the gap in internet use as the wealthy will be able to use more internet than others."  To read the entire FrenchTribune article, regarding "FCC's policies may affect online video growth...", click here.
